Through Friday, December 23rd, the NewarkWORKS program is collecting professional wear for men and women, including blue and gray business suits, blouses, dress skirts, pants, blazers, collared shirts, ties and gently worn shoes (close-toed only) for their holiday suit drive.

The apparel will be distributed to unemployed Newark residents who are working with the NewarkWORKS program to receive job training and placement assistance.

NewarkWORKS provides employment and job training programs for all constituencies of unemployed and underemployed Newark residents, including both youth and adults, seniors, veterans, the disabled and people who were formerly incarcerated. Where needed, NewarkWORKS also refers its clients to additional support services.

A study by Dr. Frank Bernieri, who is an expert in first impressions and professor of psychology at Oregon State University, revealed that interviewers draw conclusions about whether a candidate is right for a job within the first ten seconds of meeting them, according to Forbes. Clothes donated through the drive might provide the edge candidates need to get a better hearing during more substantive parts of the interview process.
